Maisie’s Choir & Kitchen Band
For many weeks now Valmar Community Access clients, Ann, Carmel and Craig have been attending practice with Maisie’s Choir and Kitchen Band at the Yass Soldiers Club, in anticipation of performing on stage in the not too distant future. This has been a dream of Ann’s and it is wonderful to see her dream coming to fruition.
We had already attended the groups Christmas concert in 2015 and this was enjoyed by all that attended bringing tears to eyes for some. After returning from our Christmas break the group approached us to see if we would like to attend their practice each week to just listen or if anyone wanted to join in they were very welcome too.
This was Ann’s opportunity to for fill her dream of singing in a choir, she was very keen to take part and now attends practice each week. Carmel and Craig have also enjoyed taking part singing along to the songs that they know, it is amazing to see both of them learning the songs just by listening, they both sing their hearts out, and it is great to see.
And “Yes” all this practice and learning words too many songs has to lead somewhere, the concert date was finally set and they would perform on stage at the Yass Soldiers Club on the 31st of July 2016. Everyone one was very excited to finally have the date for the performance and to see their hard work take shape.
The day finally arrived with some saying they were a little nervous, Ann said she had sweaty palms with a bit of a chuckle, I don’t think she was the only one. Ann spent the morning practicing with the Maisie’s Choir & Kitchen Band and the Italian Choir from Canberra that they would be singing several songs with them.
What an amazing day it was with Ann taking part in the entire concert and Craig and Carmel taking the stage for The Road to Gundagai and Love is in the Air. I was very impressed by each of them, they did an amazing job.
I would also like to thank each and every choir member for their assistance and making us all feel very welcome.
We will continue to attend Maisie’s Choir and Kitchen Band each Tuesday with the next performance to be held at Linton on the 6.9.16.
Music is the universal language of mankind
Music does bring people together.
It allows us to experience the same emotions.
People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit.
No matter what language we speak, what color we are,
the form of our politics or the expression of our love and our faith,
music proves: We are the same."
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
