Valmar operates a range of day program services for people with a disability to provide supports that are age appropriate and reflect the needs of the service user. These programs are:
Community Access Service (CAS)
Community Participation (CP)
Transition to Work (TTW)
Life Choices & Active Aging (LCAA)
Community Access Service (CAS)
The CAS service caters for people, between 18 and 65 years of age, with a moderate to severe disability residing in the Tumut, Gundagai, Tumbarumba and Yass local government areas.
The aim of CAS & CP programs is to develop an Independent Living Training and Self Development Service with a strong focus on community access and participation in ordinary community environments.
Community Participation Program (CP)
The CP program is designed for school leavers with moderate to high support needs who require an alternative to paid employment, vocational training or higher education.
The service aims to assist young people with a disability to develop the skills they need to achieve their goals, increase their independence and participate as a valued and active member of the community.
The CP program is available to eligible residents living in the Tumut, Tumbarumba, Gundagai, Yass, Queanbeyan, Gunning and Harden local government areas.
Transition to work (TTW)
TTW is a two year program with the aim of helping young people with a disability to become employment ready. The program develops the skills and/or qualifications needed by young people to successfully secure and maintain employment.
This program is generally targeted to young people with moderate to high needs who are unable to immediately access employment or attend TAFE or university because of their support needs.
TTW is available to eligible residents living in the Tumut, Gundagai, Tumbarumba, Harden, Yass, Queanbeyan, Eurobodalla and Upper Lachlan local government areas.
Eligibility for this service is determined by the Department of Human Services – Ageing, Disability and HomeCare (ADHC) through an in-school assessment process.
Life choices & Active Aging Programs (LCAA)
The LCAA program is a recent innovation in day programs. It is a person-centred service that is conscious of the service user’s life stage. This means that Valmar will offer a range of age appropriate activities and supports that are flexible and reflect the goals and needs of the service user.
Through Individual Planning the service user may identify a range of activities they would like to participate in, within the resources that are available to the service.

The emphasis, quantity, and specific types of support and activities provided to service users may vary between the Life Choices and Active Ageing Programs. For example, the activities offered under the Active Ageing Program will provide for ageing issues such as the health, energy levels and motivation of participants
What are the criteria and how do I apply for a suitable Day program?
CAS & CP - The primary entry requirement for the CAS or CP service is that the applicant is eligible to receive the Disability Support Pension. Entry to the service is determined by the Department through their intake line. The Coordinator will explain the entry process and assist where necessary.
Day program placement will depend upon a vacancy within the service. However, in the case where there is currently no funded position, Valmar will look at other programs within its services that may help in the interim.
Contact the Coordinator of the CAS Service or CP program at Valmar and express your interest in the service.
TTW – The entry process to the service is managed by the NSW Department of Education
during terms 3 & 4 of Year 12. This assessment is then forwarded to DADHC to determine if the young person with a disability is eligible for either TTW or the CP program.
To apply for a TTW package you must complete an Adult Training, Learning and Support application form. And the service Coordinator can help you with this. Alternatively or you can obtain application forms from the local office of the Department of Human Services - Ageing, Disability and Home Care.
Life Choices & Active Ageing – Funding for this service is allocated on a regional basis by the Department when they become available. To be eligible for either the Life Choices or Active Ageing Programs, a person will need to be an adult with a disability who:
|
Aboriginal people aged 40 to 64 years with early onset ageing, or requiring specialised support, are also eligible for the Active Ageing Program.
As the number of places available is limited in the Life Choices and Active Ageing Programs in any given year, not all individuals who meet the above eligibility criteria will automatically be allocated a place. Priority of access will be based on need and will be determined by the Department of Human Services – Aging, Disability & Home Care.
How much does it cost?
There is a small fee charged on a daily attendance basis. Travel charges also may apply.
Contact the service Coordinator for further information and assistance in making an application for this service type.
